“Ghost”

Melody & Lyrics by Mandi J. Smith

A dark, cinematic pop-rock elegy from the girl who’s been ghosted— wrestling with grief, fury, and the promise that when she’s gone, she’ll never haunt anyone the way she was haunted.

VERSE 1 (haunting piano — 1940’s style):

They say your ghost
Should bring me back to life
But the saddest thing is
That you ever had to die
(That you ever had to die)

On the other side
There’s nothing to conceal
Here I’m left to question
Was any of it real?
(Was any of it real?)

PRE-CHORUS:
I’m not scared of you
But I’m scared of what you see
I don’t want to share my secrets
No, these tears are just for me
But if you see me wearing black still
Please just let me be
There’s nothing left that’s beautiful
It’s been a long funeral

VERSE 2 (rock section):
I feel like a tumbleweed
Running through your ghost town
I cross the highway spinning
Tryin’ to get the fuck out

But I get pounded by the crowds
All driving in
Laughing along the way
In your ghost town
I’m the entertainment of the day, hey

VERSE 3 (distorted — full rock):
Well, I’m no angel
I’m sick of saving people
Think I’m gonna join the living
Loving you’s been lethal

Did you have regrets
When you took your last breath?
On the graveyard stone it says
I scared myself to death
(Did you scare yourself to death?)

MUSICAL BREAK

VERSE 4 (return to haunting piano):

I miss you every day
I feel you in the nothingness
The hole you left
Might kill me next
When I’m a ghost
I promise I’ll be good
I’ll go straight to heaven
No one will have to question—

(two heartbeats… flatline)
